Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis (AGLC) has revealed that 28 sportsbook and casino operators have registered or commenced registration ahead of the province’s new open iGaming market launch on July 13. The list includes some of the industry’s biggest names, signaling a competitive and diverse market for Canadian players.
The AGLC, which oversees the regulatory framework for Alberta’s iGaming sector, anticipates updating the list of registered operators weekly. As of May 1, the operators set to launch include FanDuel, PointsBet Canada, BetRivers, theScore Bet, Jackpot City, Spin Casino, Ruby Fortune, Bet99, Betway, Betty, BetMGM, Bally’s, DraftKings, Golden Nugget, and Caesars (including Caesars Sportsbook, Horseshoe Online Casino, and Caesars Palace Online).

In addition to the operators, the AGLC has also registered 22 iGaming systems providers, 8 platform providers, and 11 goods and services suppliers. This comprehensive setup mirrors the regulatory model established in Ontario, which has been operational for four years and currently hosts 45 licensed operators and 79 live gaming websites.
The Alberta iGaming market will operate under a 20% house cut on net iGaming revenue, with 80% going to operators. Additionally, 2% of total gross gaming revenue (GGR) will be allocated to support First Nations, and 1% of total GGR will fund social responsibility initiatives.
Greg Karamitis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Sports at DraftKings, previously expressed excitement about expanding into Alberta. “We’re excited about the opportunity to expand DraftKings’ footprint in Canada and bring our online sportsbook and casino experiences to customers in Alberta,” he said. “With the anticipated launch aligning with the World Cup—hosted right here in North America—it’s a particularly exciting moment for sports fans in the province to engage with our platform.”
The AGLC has noted a high volume of inquiries related to Alberta’s iGaming market and advises that priority will be given to organizations that have initiated the registration process and paid the required fees.
