The Carolina Hurricanes enter Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final against the Vegas Golden Knights as slight favorites, but the betting landscape is far from straightforward. With tight odds and a wealth of betting action, the matchup promises to be one of the most hotly contested finals in recent memory.

At BetMGM, the Hurricanes are priced at -149 to win the series, while the Golden Knights are +125. The Moneyline action heavily favors Vegas, with 58% of the handle and 68% of the bets placed on the Golden Knights. Meanwhile, the Hurricanes hold a slight edge in outright odds, with DraftKings listing them at -150 and the Golden Knights at +130.

“It’s going to be a great betting series,” said Johnny Avello, Director of Race and Sports Operations for DraftKings. The Golden Knights’ recent playoff success, including three Stanley Cup Final appearances since their 2017-18 expansion and a championship win in 2023, has drawn significant betting interest. However, Avello notes that the series is far from a clear-cut favorite.

“This is a really tough series to handicap. Edge might go to Carolina and defense. Or the edge might go to Vegas and offense. I think that (Vegas) price is very attractive to bettors.”

The Golden Knights boast a deep roster, featuring stars like Jack Eichel, Mitch Marner (currently the shortest odds to win the Conn Smythe Trophy at +155 at DraftKings), and Mark Stone. Their recent playoff run, including a stunning upset of the Colorado Avalanche, has only fueled their popularity among bettors. However, the Hurricanes, who dominated the Montreal Canadiens in five games, are no pushovers, especially with their strong defensive structure.

Player props are also drawing attention, with Carter Hart’s over 28.5 saves at -120 and Mark Stone receiving significant interest. Andrei Svechnikov of the Hurricanes is also a hot pick in scoring and matchup markets, according to Tonybet Sportsbook Manager Mārtiņš Korulis.

Despite the Golden Knights’ popularity, DraftKings reports that they are not facing the same level of liability as in previous years. Karry Shreeve, Head of Hockey at Caesars Sportsbook, noted that while Vegas is competitive, they lack the same level of public support as teams like the Edmonton Oilers, who dominated recent Cup discussions.
