Australia-based betting giant Tabcorp has been fined AU$158,400 for breaching the country’s in-play betting rules. This marks the third such violation since 2021 for the company. The Australian Communications and Media Authority investigated the matter.
It found Tabcorp accepted in-play sports bets, which is illegal in Australia. The investigation discovered 426 bets across 32 tennis matches between February 2024 and June 2025. Tabcorp provided evidence that the breaches occurred due to system and communication issues with a third-party provider. The company has voided and refunded all affected bets. ACMA member Carolyn Lidgerwood emphasized that wagering operators cannot outsource their legal responsibilities. She noted the length of time it took Tabcorp to identify and fix the problem was concerning.
This penalty follows other recent compliance issues for Tabcorp. Last month, the company was fined for breaching self-exclusion rules. It was the only operator among six to receive a penalty for allowing self-excluded persons to access wagering services. The ACMA has warned that further non-compliance could lead to court action. Tabcorp has entered into an enforceable undertaking requiring regular reporting and system reviews.
