In a sweeping crackdown on illegal gambling operations, Rizal police arrested eight individuals in separate raids conducted in Morong and Teresa on Friday evening. The operations, carried out by the Rizal Police Provincial Office, uncovered hidden betting rings operating in residential areas, seizing cash, betting materials, and other incriminating evidence.

The raids were executed following reports of suspicious activity in the areas. Police confirmed that the arrests targeted illegal numbers games, commonly referred to as “bookies”, which operate outside legal gambling frameworks.

Morong Operation

At approximately 7:40 p.m., a joint team of provincial and local police forces raided a location on T. Claudio Street, inside Barangay Maybancal. Seven individuals were apprehended during the operation. While their full names were not disclosed, police identified them by street tags: Ulysses, Jay, Raldie, Ian, Noel, Jonas, and Rexon.

During the raid, authorities seized P3,415 in cash along with betting paraphernalia, including calculators, notebooks, ballpens, betting receipts, a plastic container, and a shoulder bag. The recovered items suggest a well-organized operation, with evidence pointing to systematic illegal betting activities.

Teresa Arrest

Earlier in the day, officers from the Teresa Police Station acted on a tip about suspicious activity beneath a house in Dulumbayan. Arriving at the scene by 6:00 p.m., police discovered Jose engaged in illegal numbers gambling. Seized from his possession were betting stubs, receipts with written bet numbers, a ballpen, a sling bag, and P40 in cash.

The operation highlighted the covert nature of these illegal activities, with police noting that the raids were only possible due to community cooperation and intelligence-driven efforts.

Legal Proceedings and Police Response

All eight individuals are now in police custody, facing charges under Presidential Decree No. 1602, as amended by Republic Act No. 9287. These laws prohibit illegal gambling operations, and formal complaints are being prepared for court proceedings.

Rizal Police Provincial Director Eleazar Barber Jr. praised the swift and coordinated efforts of the police units involved. He emphasized the office’s commitment to combating illegal gambling, stating that such operations will continue to be strengthened with community support to maintain peace and order.
